Crikey a new week already, time is zipping by faster than a hamster in a turbo charged wonder wheel… Um.
So hang on to your lugnuts here we go.
IDW have announced that in league with Pandasaurus games they will be releasing the cool and funky Machi Koro in July with retailer exclusive game cards. If you have no idea what I’m on about here’s a little taster from the site about the game.
You’ve just been elected Mayor. Congrats! Unfortunately the citizens have some pretty big demands: jobs, a theme park, a couple of cheese factories and maybe even a radio tower. A tough proposition since the city currently consists of a wheat field, a bakery and a single die. Armed only with your trusty die and a dream, you must grow Machi Koro into the largest city in the region. You will need to collect income from developments, build public works, and steal from your neighbors coffers. Just make sure they aren’t doing the same to you!
Machi Koro is a fast-paced light-hearted game for you and up to 3 friends. Once you’ve had a taste of Machi Koro, this infectiously fun game may have you wondering if the dinner table ever served another purpose.
They say you can’t build Rome in a day, but Machi Koro will be built in under 30 minutes!
Couldn’t have put it better myself. This looks a lot of fun and is really building some great word of mouth from some of the big names in the game playing world. Be in with the cool kids and keep an eye out for this when it hits in July.
Cryptozoic have just released the Streetfighter Deck Building Game. It should be hitting UK pretty soon. It uses the same mechanics as the DC and Lord of the rings games which have met with mixed responses from the gaming community. I have to say i’m a bit tempted as have many happy memories of kicking butt on my SNES back in the day.
And next week 7th May will see the UK release for the sold out and sold out again Marvel Dice Masters game from Wizkids. A bit excited about getting my hands on this. And will pop up a review and thoughts as soon as I can.
Just before we dive into the Kickstarter News – Last week we mentioned that the German crowdfunding site www.Spieleschmiede.com was launching a second chance for the Academy Games reprint of the excellent Fief 1429. Well its now up HERE So go take a look. If that wasn’t enough to tempt you this version comes with all the sweet stretch goals already met during its initial Kickstarter run. And speaking of Kickstarter…
Kickstarter News! Well first up and fresh of the presses Frankenstein’s Bodies has gone up.
‘Frankenstein’s Bodies’ is a very interactive board-based card game for 2-6 players lasting 50-70 minutes. In the game you play surgeons aiming to create the finest bodies from the parts (cards) available. Points are gained for bodies that are made from parts matched for serum colour and gender. But it’s more than a straight race to stitch parts together. Players can surgically remove parts from each other. But there is a risk of having these ‘infected’ and so become worthless. Master Surgeons can be brought in who offer extra expertise (points) and prevent other player’s ‘Surgery’. The game ends when one player has completed two bodies, or the draw deck runs through twice.
This just looks gruesomely cool and is completely different to pretty much everything else out there at the moment and we applaud Andrew for bringing something fresh to the table (unlike the games body parts which are a bit gooey). It plays to all the strengths of why we like games, allowing you to double cross and stitch up (ha) your opponents, we’re hoping to get our hands on a preview copy to give you a review soon. If you are interested and why wouldn’t you be, you can take a look for yourself, Andrew Harman the games designer is currently on a whistle stop tour of the UK showing the game and garnering much acclaim.
May 2 ‘Beyond Monopoly’ Games Day, York
May 16-17 ‘Beer’n’Pretzels’ Burton-on-Trent
May 27 ‘Thirsty Meeples’ Oxford.
May 30-June 2 UK Games Expo, Birmingham.
Hoping to catch up with Andrew at the Expo and time permitting in his busy schedule maybe even speak to him before. Go and take a look at the page and see what all fun is about. And throw him a bone whilst you’ll there.
There’s also Stay Away which will keep us in the horror genre, yep its a Cthulhu game, and yeah these have been done to death. But what really interests us about this particular project is that really this is The Thing as a game. They have been careful to avoid out and out announcing this as a tie in, but really this is what this is. And that is never a bad thing, there are days left to go so if you fancy a taste of body survival horror with your nearest and dearest better get clicking.
And in the “For amusement purposes only category” we have…
PrepperKing – Which is frankly terrifying. I feel sexually inadequate just looking at the games box art. The backer video appears to have been filmed in Patrick Baron the games (I use that term very loosely) designer’s survival bunker/torture chamber, where when he’s not planning for the fall of mankind has created a game dealing with “The fall of mankind”. Patrick is normally the sort of person I would avoid at all costs, the prospect of giving him my address for him to send me a package! is a bit scary.
And at the other end of the spectrum we have Rally To Heaven which you should check out the video on the bottom of the page, I’m not sure if he was selling me a game, announcing himself the son of god, or just advertising a new self help group. To be fair they have been upfront about the risks.
The only risk is the time of the prototype making, Factories are in China, and here in US we have a backup, but a little more expensive. Design, Art, are completely controlled by us. We already have some experience dealing with Chinesse factories
Pheew! cheers Issac I was a tad worried but now you’ve alleviated all the stress I had. Who do I make the cheque out to?
Well I think that about wraps us up.
Incoming we have some tasty treats for you, Episode 5 of the Podcast should be up by the weekend. In which we discuss filler games and generally make stuff up. Editing this one has been a nightmare because apparently I need to attach a pop filter to Ben who sounded like a lawn mower engine for most of the recording. So apologies in advance.
We also have some reviews to get through, including in no particular order – Sentinels of the Multiverse, Arctic Scavengers, Scoundrels Of Skullport and Pack of Heroes. Expect these over the coming week.
Voting is still open for the next FF book if we ever finish Deathtrap Dungeon.
Don’t forget to visit the WDR Guild at BGG leave us a message, post a comment, insult us… anything??
And prepare yourselves because we are drawing ever closer to the UK Games Expo 2014 30th May – 1st June, if your interested in the hobby this is the place to be.
Until next time keep gaming. And if you can’t do that then at least be game.
